Patricia Campos-Medina Calls Out Unethical Tactics from Murphy Campaign

Jan 17, 2024 | Press Release

“Tammy Murphy is blurring the lines between her campaign and the Governor’s office and presents a clear conflict of interest.”

Califon, NJ— Following recent revelations reported by the New York Times regarding pressure tactics employed by the Tammy Murphy campaign, candidate for U.S. Senate Patricia Campos-Medina issued the following statement:

“It is greatly concerning that officials aligned with the Murphy campaign allegedly pressured a college student group against endorsing one of Murphy’s opponents. As a Latina woman in NJ politics, I’ve encountered firsthand the apprehension among local leaders who fear repercussions from the Governor’s office, such as loss of state funding, for opposing Tammy Murphy’s campaign.

“The call for ethical clarity is imperative, and I urge Tammy Murphy to cease leveraging taxpayer-funded resources from the Governor’s office, including her use of the title of First Lady, as she continues her campaign for the U.S. Senate. This issue extends to the Murphy campaign’s reliance on the ballot party line and further exacerbates the perception that she is improperly leveraging the power of the Governor’s office. By deploying old-school New Jersey political tactics, including leveraging the Governor’s office for fundraising and the potential for perceived retribution against opponents, Tammy Murphy is blurring the lines between her campaign and the Governor’s office and presents a clear conflict of interest.”

In a video announcing her campaign, Campos-Medina shares her inspiring journey as a Latina immigrant woman and as someone who intimately understands how issues like the economy and jobs, war, immigration policy and economic community investment impact the daily lives of countless New Jerseyans and their loved ones.
